Install Windows XP is within the reach of everyone given the short of steps that there is to do. There are two types of Windows Setup:

  • Installing on a new PC or on a blank hard disk of any data
  • The update, which is done in having previously started his PC, launched the operating system (Windows) and by inserting the CD.

We will detail the steps necessary to install Windows XP and this with a blank hard disk (or with loss of data if your disc is not blank) with one or more hard drives SATA (serial ATA), to show you the most complicated maneuver in case you'd be confronted (e).

If you have a disk IDE the procedure is exactly the same but simplified! You will only skip the step of pressing F6 to insert the floppy and SATA drivers.

Need you first configure your BIOS so it looks for a system bootable on the CD-ROM first, otherwise you will have beautiful insert the CD, and then restart your PC, it will start as he usually does and so you can install Windows.

Once this is done, insert the XP CD and restart your computer. Press a key to boot from the CDROM when you inviting message appears at the bottom of your screen. The installation starts. Once the equipment is inspected, you arrive at this screen:

Press the F6 key to activate the option to install SCSI or SATA drives

Press the enterkey. The Setup program then informs you that it found no hard disk to install Windows.

Press S to specify an additional hardware. Then insert the disk with the SATA drivers (look for your motherboard CD) and press enter. The possible list of installable drivers appears. Select the appropriate driver and press enter.

If you have additional device, again press S and repeat the manoeuvre. Otherwise press again on entry. Then press F8 to accept the license agreement. You then find yourself before the partition manager. If your drive is not partitioned, press C to create a partition. Specify the size in MB and press ENTER.

The creation of partitions is an important step. I advise you to create multiple partitions (one for Windows and the system, at least one for your documents) because if you are forced to format the system partition later, your documents will not be affected. For more details about creating a partition, you can consult the following tutorial: partition the hard disk

Next, select the partition in which to install Windows and press ENTER. Choose for convenience the C partition

It is now necessary to format the partition. Select format the partition using the NTFS (quick) file system and press enter.

The Setup program formats the partition. On the next reboot, you find yourself in this screen:

After some time, Windows offers you configure language settings. If you wish to change the uppercase keys, etc. click on Details, otherwise click Next. Anyway, you will have the possibility of making all that later in the control panel.

You then return a name (which will be your user name) and your organization. Click Next once this is done. You should now return the key that was provided with your Windows CD. Once the back key, click Next.

Then enter a name that you give to your computer (it is a network name, don't give it more than 8 characters, and place only non-special characters). If you wish to enter an administrator password. Then click on Next.

Next, configure the date, time and click Next. Windows tells you it will automatically configure your screen resolution. Click Ok. You are now before this screen:

Click Next. Then fill in your name, as well as the names or possible pseudonyms of other users possible. Then click on Next.

Windows Setup is complete! Click Finish. On the next reboot, you need to enable your operating system by telephone or internet on pain of not being able to use it 30 days after installation.
