WINDOWS 2000 INSTALLATION

To install Windows 2000 Professional, follow these steps:

1. Start the installation by using one of the following methods:

o booting from the Windows 2000 Professional installation CD: make sure that the CD-ROM is set to start before the start of the hard drive. Insert the CD-ROM in the appropriate drive, and then at the system prompt, press any key to start the Windows 2000 Professional Setup program.

o start from boot disks: insert the floppy disk 1, and then insert each of the remaining three disks when prompted by the system.

o start from the current operating system: insert the CD-ROM in the appropriate drive, and then, at a command prompt, type drive : \i386\winnt32.exe and press enter or if it is an installation on a computer with no previous version of Windows, type drive : \i386\winnt.exe and press enter (where drive is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).

2. The Setup program analyzes your computer's hardware configuration, and then begins to install the Setup files and drivers. To view the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional screen, press ENTER to install Windows 2000 Professional.

3. Read the license agreement and press the F8 key to agree to the terms and continue with the installation.

4. To view the Windows 2000 Professional Setup screen, press ENTER to install Windows 2000 Professional on the selected partition, or press C to create a partition in the unpartitioned space.

5. If you choose to install Windows 2000 Professional on a partition of the FAT (File Allocation Table) file allocation table, specify whether you want to

o let the file system what,.

o format the partition in FAT16,

o convert the existing NTFS file system file system or

o format the partition using the NTFS file system.

Press enter once you have made the selection. The Setup program examines the existing hard disks and then copies the necessary files to complete the installation of Windows 2000 Professional. Once the files are copied, the computer restarts.

6. To view the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard in graphical mode, click Next to start the wizard. Setup detects and installs devices such as a mouse or a keyboard specialist.

7. When the Regional Options dialog box appears, customize if necessary your installation of Windows 2000 Professional for locale, number format, currency, time, date and language. Click Next .

8. In the dialog box Customize your software , type your name and celui that your organization, and then click Next .

9. In the Product ID dialog box, type the 25-character product key, and then click Next .

10. In the dialog box the computer name and administrator password, accept the default name generated by the Setup program or assign a different name for the computer. When you are prompted for an administrator password, type a password for the administrator account (you can also do not enter anything in the box, but this is not recommended). Click Next .

11. In setting the date and time dialog box, set the date and time appropriate for your computer. You can also specify the time zone you're in, and configure the computer so that it automatically adjusts the clock according to daylight saving time. Click Next .

12. The Setup program installs the network software and detects network settings. To view the network settings dialog box, click either

o by default to set network settings by default such as sharing files and printing for Microsoft networks, client for Microsoft networks, and TCP/IP protocol that uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), or

o custom to specify the network components that you require for your network environment,

then click Next .

13. In the workgroup or computer domain dialog box, specify the workgroup or the domain to join. If you indicate that you are part of a domain, specify the user name and the password of the domain. Click Next . Setup installs the networking components.

14. During the final phase of the installation, Setup installs Start menu items, registers the components, saves settings and removes temporary files. When the completing the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard dialog box prompts you to remove the Windows 2000 drive CD-ROM, do so, and then click Finish to restart the computer.

15. Once the computer has restarted, click Next in the Welcome dialog box!

16. In the users of this computer dialog box, specify whether users must enter a user name and a password when the computer starts or if you want Windows 2000 to automatically opens a session for a particular user. Click Finish .

When the Windows 2000 Professional desktop appears, the installation is complete.
